Metal texture effect

In this tutorial you will learn how to create a metal texture effect. You will need to use various filters for this texture effect.

Metal texture effect

Step 1
Open a Photoshop document with 640 x 480 dimensions.
Choose a grey foreground colour then select the paint bucket fill the canvas with your colour. I have used #787878 colour for my metal texture.




Step 2
Add some noise to the canvas by selecting Filter > Noise > Add Noiseand add the following settings.
Amount = 17%
Distrubution = Uniform
Monochromatic = Checked

You should get the following:

Step 3
Select Filter > Blur > Motion Blur and add the following settings.
Angle = 57
Distance = 15 pixels


You should now have a metal texture effect. If you don’t like the brightness of your texture you can adjust it by selecting Image > Adjustment > Hue/Saturation and adjust the lightness slider.

Rocky texture

In this tutorial you will learn how to create a rocky texture in Photoshop. A rocky texture is basically a texture which look rock/stone.This process requires using the stylize and the render filters.

Step 1
Open a new Photoshop documents with the 640 x 480 dimensions.
Then reset the palette by pressing the ‘D’ key.

Step 2
Select Filter > Render > Difference Clouds. Then repeat the filter again by selecting Ctrl + F and you should get the following image below:




Step 3
Select Filter > Stylize > Find edges and you should get the following effect.


Step 4
Select Image > Adjustment > Levels and drag the left most slider to the right until it looked like below:


You should now have rocky texture effect.

Glass texture

In this Photoshop tutorial you will learn how to create a glass texture effect. You need to use various effect filters for this tutorial.

Step 1
Open a new Photoshop document with the size 640 x 480.
Set the foreground colour to #6edbff and the background colour to #000000.

Step 2
Select Filter > Render > Clouds and you should get the following pattern.




Step 3
Select Filter > Artistic > Plastic Wrap and add the following settings:
Highlight strength = 10
Details = 5
Smoothness = 3


Step 4
Select Filter > Distort > Glass and add the following settings below:
Distortion = 10
Smoothness = 3
Texture = Tiny Lens
Scaling = 80%


Step 5
Now duplicate the current layer by selecting Ctrl + J and change the blend mode to ‘Screen’.


You should now have a glass texture effect.
